TOO MUCH STUFF? GARAGE SALE TRAIL TO THE RESCUE!

Australia's biggest #reuse event is happening the weekend after next. Hurrah! October 21 & 22 in your diaries whether you're in the market for new second-hand awesomeness or fancy holding a sale yourself.

The goal? To have 350,000 Australians hosting and shopping at garage sales - getting pre-loved stuff re-loved, meeting neighbours, and having fun. I love the thinking behind this so much.

As I write this, there are already more than 220,000 sales registered nationally. To register yours, click here. There's no charge.

This is a community event, designed to get people thinking about reuse culture and saving unwanted items from landfill. And heaps of people choose to donate % of their sales to good causes too.

I'm very happy to be one of their ambassadors this year.

Here's a snippet of my Q&A:

WHAT’S THE MOST FRIVOLOUS THING YOU’VE EVER BOUGHT AT A GARAGE SALE?

"A blue velvet ballet dancer’s tutu, which I wore to a costume party then hid in a suitcase for a decade. "

WHAT’S YOUR BEST TIP FOR ‘GARAGE SALE ETIQUETTE?’

"Bring your own reusable bag, and don’t be a hectic haggler when things are already cheap – if something’s $3 do you really need to beat it down to $2.75? Give them 4 bucks!"

WHAT’S YOUR TOP SUSTAINABILITY TIP?

"Reconnect with your clothes again, fall back in love with them and commit to extending their life and saving them from landfill. We’ve lost the mending habit. Some of my best outfits are vintage, market finds, op shop and garage sale scores ."

Can you help us spread the word about the radness of garage sales?
